Performance marketing in Brisbane, without the agency layer

Based here, which mostly matters for the unglamorous reasons. Same time zone, same trading hours, and somebody who knows the difference between Ipswich and Ipswich Road before your budget finds out.

What is different about advertising in this city

Brisbane is a big service-area city with a small-city cost per click, which is a good combination if the geography is set up properly. The catch is that the metro sprawls. A radius drawn around the CBD will happily spend your money on people in Caboolture who were never going to drive in.

Suburb-level and zone-shaped targeting matters more here than in a dense city. Northside and southside often trade differently across the river. Chermside is not Carindale, Indooroopilly is not Springwood. It is usually the first thing worth fixing in an account that was set up somewhere else.

Seasonality that catches people out

  • Storm season from November. Roofers, electricians and insurers see spikes worth being ready for rather than reacting to a fortnight late.
  • The January dead patch, when half the city is at the coast and the other half is not spending.
  • School holiday patterns that move family services, tutoring, clinics and hospitality in predictable ways a national bid strategy never anticipates.
  • A budget set once in February and left flat all year quietly overpays in the quiet months and runs out in the busy ones.

Where I work

Across the whole of South East Queensland. Redcliffe to Logan, Ipswich to the Redlands, the Moreton Bay side and the bayside. The Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast are a normal part of the week. Most of the work happens over a call with the account on screen, and if you would rather sit down in person for the first conversation, that is easy to arrange.

Questions

Asked most often

Do you only work with Brisbane businesses?

No. Brisbane is home and a good share of the work is local, but paid media does not need anyone in the room. Clients elsewhere in Australia are normal and the arrangement is identical.

What does Google Ads cost for a Brisbane business?

The management fee is fixed and depends on scope. The media budget depends entirely on your category. Clicks in trades, legal and cosmetic categories here can run past twenty dollars, while plenty of retail and service categories sit under three. I look at your keywords and give you an actual number.

Can we meet in person?

Yes, for the first conversation and whenever it is useful. Most ongoing work is faster on a call with the account open than across a table.

Do you have an office?

No, on purpose. An office in Fortitude Valley is a cost you would end up paying for, and it adds nothing to how the account gets managed.

Based in Brisbane, working Australia wide

Send what you are running now and what is not working. You get an honest read back, usually the same day.

8am to 5pm AEST, Monday to Friday. I answer the phone myself, and if I am in the middle of something I ring back the same day.

  1. 01
    Send

Read access to the account, or screenshots of the last ninety days.

  2. 02
    I read it

And write back in plain language: what is working, what is wasting money, what I would do first.

  3. 03
    You decide

No pitch deck, no follow-up sequence. If the account is fine, I tell you that and we are done.
